Our Pet Policy – What to Know Before You Book

We love having four-legged guests stay with us at Kielder Waterside, and our policy is designed to balance comfort, safety, and respect for the site and other guests. Below is everything you should know before you book.

Maximum Number of Pets per Lodge

  • Most of our pet-friendly lodges comfortably accommodate one or two well-behaved dogs.
  • If you’d like to bring more than two, please contact us in advance to discuss. While there’s no strict upper limit, extremely large numbers of dogs may not be suitable.

Cleaning & Accommodation Expectations

  • We ask that pets not damage or excessively soil furnishings or bedding. If extra cleaning is required beyond ordinary wear and tear, additional charges may apply.
  • On arrival and departure, please ensure your lodge is in a reasonably tidy state (e.g. clear up pet mess, vacuum hair/dirt if necessary) so our housekeeping team can prepare for the next guests.

House Rules & Safety Guidelines

To ensure a pleasant stay for everyone, we ask that all pet owners follow these rules:

  1. Do not leave pets unattended in your lodge for long periods. If you must leave your pet alone, ensure they are secured in a way that does not disturb neighbours.
  2. Always clean up after your pet — both inside the lodge and around the site grounds.
  3. Behaviour: Dogs should be well-behaved and not aggressive or excessively noisy.
  4. Keep pets away from sensitive areas (e.g. lodge interiors during housekeeping, certain landscaped areas) unless explicitly permitted.

On-Lead / Off-Lead & Trails Policy

  • For safety and respect of other guests, pets must be on a lead in the lodge park, communal areas, paths immediately around lodges, and shared spaces.
  • There are many nearby off-lead trails and forest walks where well-trained dogs can roam under control.
  • On site, you’ll also find our dog agility area,  a secure, fenced spot designed for off-lead play, training and supervised fun.
  • Trails such as Lakeside Way and Kielder Forest Walks have varying lead policies in different sections; please check signage or ask Guest Services for guidance.

Additional Notes & Tips

  • Keep your pet’s vaccination, microchip, and flea/tick treatment up to date.
  • If your pet is easily startled or reactive, please be extra cautious around other guests and wildlife.
  • Let us know in advance if your pet has any special needs (e.g. dietary, mobility) so we can advise as best as possible.
