Perfect all year round, your BBQ hut break in Northumberland is waiting for you

At Kielder Waterside, we know that the best holiday memories are made outdoors, which is why our BBQ hut lodges are so special. Sheltered from the wind and the rain by traditional timber walls and a chimney roof, your private barbecue hut means you can fire up the grill in the depths of winter or on a summer’s evening, and everyone stays warm, cosy and together.

Look no further if toasting marshmallows, smelling woodsmoke in the air and taking in beautiful scenery around you is your dream lodge holiday. When you’ve finished cooking up a storm and enjoying your food, step outside and sit beneath the darkest skies in England, suitable for hours of entertainment.

Whether you’re booking a romantic escape, a family break or a long weekend with friends, a BBQ hut stay is one of the most sociable, memorable ways to enjoy Kielder.

Why choose a BBQ hut holiday in Northumberland

A BBQ hut stay is more than just an outdoor cooking space; it’s the heart of your holiday. Here’s why our guests love them:

  1. Outdoor cooking, all year round:  Rain, shine or snow, your private BBQ hut means BBQ season never ends. The covered timber hut and central grill let you fire things up in January just as easily as July.

  2. The most sociable space at your lodge: Everyone gathers around the central grill in a BBQ hut. It’s the kind of space that turns dinner into an evening, and an evening into the highlight of the trip.

  3. Perfect for families and groups: Our BBQ hut lodges sleep up to six, with comfortable bedrooms, modern living spaces and plenty of room to spread out. Toast marshmallows with the kids, share a long meal with friends, or settle in for ghost stories around the fire.

  4. Stargazing built in: Step out of your BBQ hut, and you’re under the darkest skies in England. Few places combine open-fire cooking and unspoilt night skies the way Kielder Waterside does.

  5. A genuinely different kind of break: Plenty of lodges have a hot tub. Far fewer have a private Scandinavian-style BBQ hut. It’s the detail that turns a good break into a holiday people remember and talk about for years.

We recommend bringing your own charcoal, firelighters and food for your BBQ hut. Our on-site shop stocks everyday essentials, and you’ll find the local area well supplied for everything you’ll need.

Can I use the BBQ hut in winter?

Absolutely, that’s the whole point. The covered hut and chimney design means our Scandinavian BBQ huts are designed for year-round use, including the colder months. Many guests say winter is when the BBQ hut feels at its most magical.

What is a BBQ Hut?

A BBQ hut is a Scandinavian-style timber cabin built around a central grill and chimney, with bench seating around the fire. It gives you all the experience of outdoor cooking and sitting around an open flame, but sheltered from the wind and weather, so you can use it all year round.
